ABOUT JOSHUA LUBBEN

An award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist, and folk artist out of Nashville, TN, Joshua Lubben writes and develops new music while performing throughout the country. After beginning classical studies at age 5, Joshua soon realized that music moved and inspired him in a uniquely powerful way: from the open-air concerts of his childhood in rural Iowa, to his father’s favorite Bach, Beatles, and Bob Dylan CDs, the soundscape and lyricism of his surroundings began formulating Joshua’s artistic voice. From his earliest compositions at age six to his mature works as a seasoned composer, Joshua has forged a sound that resonates with American life and experience, but with an imagination born of an immigrant heritage and genre-defying musical taste.

After earning a music composition degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University (West Pam Beach, FL), Joshua accepted a wide range of commissions for theatre, choir, and orchestra, including “Five Songs for Fifty States,” premiered by the PBAU Concert Choir at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach (2018); songs and orchestrations for his appearance with The Symphony of the Americas at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts (2019); and a solo cello score for a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” (2020), in which he appeared as both writer and performer. Then in 2021, Joshua was awarded the Artist Innovation Fellowship by the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, honoring his achievements and continued contributions as a Florida-based musician.

In the last few years, Joshua’s favorite commissions include the original scores for Palm Beach Dramawork’s award-winning productions of “Intimate Apparel” (2022) and “Death of a Salesman” (2024); the orchestration and arranging of Sight & Sound Theatre’s “Ruth” (2023); and the score and title song for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s “The Hill: A Return to Spoon River” (2024). An increased touring schedule as a folk artist prompted Joshua to relocate to Nashville in Summer 2024, where his current projects include the orchestrations for “Landmark Town,” a new Christmas cantata featuring the songs of Carrie Cuningham and Hal O’Dell, and the original score for Kyle Schnack’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry V.”

Beyond his commission work, Joshua has written multiple musicals and will celebrate the professional world premiere of “The Luck” – a folk-musical co-written with brothers Michael and Tom – at the Gordon Theatre in Pensacola, FL November 2025.
